Midlands Truck & Van is working with Slicker Recycling to reduce carbon emissions, improve waste management and drive operational efficiencies across its eight UK sites.

Through its partnership with Slicker Recycling, Midlands Truck & Van has implemented an integrated waste management solution across its sites. The partnership supports the business in reducing its environmental impact while delivering greater operational and cost efficiencies.

One Slicker solution for multiple waste streams

Slicker provides a single, reliable waste management solution across the Midlands Truck & Van network, collecting and managing a range of waste streams including waste oil, workshop waste, dry waste, scrap metal and confidential waste. Slicker also manages the drains and interceptors across the sites, giving Midlands Truck & Van a consistent solution across its operations and reducing the complexity of managing multiple waste services.

Turning used oil into a circular resource

One of the key waste streams generated across Midlands Truck & Van’s workshops is used oil. Rather than being processed into fuel for combustion, the used oil collected from the sites is transported to Slicker’s re-refiner where contaminants are removed and the used oil is transformed into a high-quality base oil product.

The recovered base oil is then supplied to the lubricant industry, where it can be used as a key component in the manufacture of new lubricating oils creating a circular process in which used oil is given a second life.

Through Slicker’s waste-oil-to-base-oil process, Midlands Truck & Van avoids more than 48,000 kg of carbon emissions each year.

The same focus on resource recovery extends across other waste streams. Materials such as oil filters, antifreeze and scrap metal are collected and processed at specialist facilities, where they are sorted and separated for use in new applications.

Using technology to improve efficiency

Slicker is also continually looking for ways to improve service delivery and operational efficiency.

As part of its continuous improvement programme, Slicker has installed tank telemetry on used-oil storage tanks at several Midlands Truck & Van locations. The technology provides real-time visibility of tank levels and automatically alerts Slicker when a tank is approaching capacity. This enables collections to be proactively scheduled before tanks become full, helping to reduce the risk of spills and ensuring waste is collected when required.

Telemetry also helps make collections more efficient. By scheduling collections when tanks are nearing capacity, unnecessary or premature journeys can be reduced. This helps lower associated transport costs while also reducing the carbon emissions linked to waste collection.

Delivering Value for Planet

Through its partnership with Slicker Recycling, Midlands Truck & Van is taking a practical approach to improving the sustainability of its waste management operations. From re-refining used oil and recovering valuable materials to using telemetry to optimise collections, the partnership is helping the business reduce carbon emissions, improve operational efficiency and manage resources more responsibly.

For Midlands Truck & Van, sustainability is not simply about managing waste – it is about finding practical, measurable ways to deliver environmental and commercial value across the business.

“Through our partnership with Slicker Recycling, we have established an effective solution for our waste management. At Midlands Truck & Van, we are committed to minimising our environmental impact wherever possible. Thanks to Slicker Recycling’s support, we have achieved significant carbon savings, whilst driving greater waste efficiencies across the Group.”
